Foursquare Bulks Up Sales Force With Two Ad Tech Hires, Two Promotions

Location marketplace Pinpoint is a focus of the hires, naturally. But so is the individual flagship app and social check-in tool, Swarm.

Nearly four months after unveiling its programmatic geo-targeted ad platform, Pinpoint, Foursquare has added two heavy hitting sales executives who bring years of ad tech and publisher experience with them.

The two new additions are Michael Rosen, who is joining the New York-based location sharing and discovery startup to oversee all sales efforts, and Peter Krasniqi, who will oversee Pinpoint, sales operations, and revenue partnerships. Both will be joining as vice presidents.

Foursquare also promoted two other ad sales VPs. Elyse Estrada is now VP of Global Client Success. Swen Graham has been promoted to VP of Creative and Strategy.

The moves come amid several other hires on Foursquare’s sales team over the past few months by CRO Steven Rosenblatt. Naturally, the emphasis has been on Pinpoint, the geo-data ad marketplace that allows agencies and publishers to inject location analytics into cross-platform ads outside of Foursquare’s family of apps.

Among the recent hires this past spring were former Horizon Media exec Robert Campos, who is running Pinpoint’s programmatic activation/insights manager; Jake Sinsheimer from WPP’s ad exchange unit Xaxis as manager of programmatic partnerships for Foursquare; ex-AppNexus product manager Tom Wolfstein was chosen as monetization product manager; and Tyler Simmons, previously an account exec at The Exchange Lab who was tapped as director.

“Our business continues to expand with advertising in Foursquare and Swarm, the Foursquare Location Cloud, and through the incredible success of Pinpoint,” Rosenblatt said in statement. “As we grow, we’re bringing in experts with experience building programmatic, native, and performance-based advertising businesses. We’re creating a unique business on top of first-party data that helps marketers connect the digital and physical worlds.”

Krasniq arrives at Foursquare with a long list of mobile ad tech management experiences. Most recently, he was VP, head of Performance at cross-platform ad targeter Tapad. Before that, Krasniq held leadership roles at Apple’s iAds unit after it acquired mobile ad network Quattro Wireless, and at GDS International.

Rosen’s last post was as CRO of First Look Media, the left-of-center news holding company started by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar. Rosen has also worked at AT&T Adworks, Oggifinogi, Babelgum, WeatherBug, Bloomberg Media, and News Corp.
